This project has not run for two years, but Sheffield Hallam are trying to resurrect it. Third year Health and Exercise Science students have been helping their peers to make healthier lifestyle choices as part of a wellness internship (Student Wellness Project) at Sheffield Hallam University. Thirteen Student Wellness Champions took part in the wellness internships, which saw them gain the skills to conduct health check and lifestyle consultations and received ‘healthy chat’ accreditation which is part of the ‘Making Every Contact Count’ NHS initiative. A total of 38 student participants received a health assessment and lifestyle consultation and 79% reported making positive lifestyle changes as a result. Ninety-two per cent of the Student Wellness Champions believed the internship helped them present themselves with confidence. Following the success of the second phase of the Student Wellness Project the team will be looking to expand the wellness venture over the coming months so keep your eyes peeled for phase III of the Student Wellness Project in late 2013 early 2014.
